75-year-old Mr Selvam was working ad-hoc jobs to support himself with his income of around $1,400. With three younger siblings who are struggling with their own issues, Mr Selvam had little support from his family when he faced issues in and out of work. Unfortunately, he turned to substance abuse – a mistake that he deeply regrets till today. Mr Selvan is currently serving the last part of his sentence at a halfway house

Prior to his incarceration, Mr Selvam was staying with one of his sister who suffers from cancer and is unemployed. He wishes to help lighten the family’s financial burdens by returning to work as soon as it is possible for him.

In August this year, Mr Selvam started on a part-time cleaning job and earns about $650 a month. He does not wish to disappoint his family and hopes to stay employed to continue supporting himself and his younger sister. Despite falling repeatedly, Mr Selvam strives to pick himself up again for his family.

In the meantime, Ray of Hope would like to raise $1,290 ($430 x 3 months) for Mr Selvam’s living expenses while he settles in on his new job.
