Mr Tan*, aged 67, lives together with his wife and two adult children. His relationship with his family is estranged and they are not in talking terms with him despite living under the same roof. In 2006, Mr Tan was diagnosed with Myastehnia Gravis – a neuromuscular autoimmune disease that affects his breathing, arms and legs. He tries his best to spend minimally to save money for his Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to have treatment on his tight muscles.
Mr Tan’s children supports him minimally with $200 a month after his CPF withdrawal was exhausted in 2019. He tried to seek financial assistance from the government but his application got rejected due to the family’s combined net income. Mr Tan is currently surviving on the $200 given by his daughters per month and with that little money, he has trouble meeting his basic needs as he is unfit for employment.
On top of financial difficulties, he is faced with crippling loneliness as he does not have much family support.
Ray of Hope would like to raise S$1,800 (S$150 x 12 months) to pay for Mr Tan’s meals and diapers for 12 months. Please give hope to Mr Tan!
