What happened to Mr Ramesh?
On the morning of December 31, 2023, tragedy struck Mr Ramesh’s home. While sleeping in his master bedroom, an explosion outside jolted him awake. As he rushed to investigate, he discovered a fire erupted in his living room, quickly spreading throughout the unit.
Amidst the chaos and thick smoke, Mr Ramesh attempted to salvage his identification items and a cherished portrait of his late parents. However, he suffered severe burns on his knuckles and arm during the ordeal. The fire, attributed to an electrical fault, not only ravaged his home but also robbed him of precious mementoes that connected him to his past. How can you support Mr Ramesh?
During this challenging time, Ray of Hope aims to provide Mr Ramesh with the essential resources to restore his home to a safe and habitable condition. Here’s how your contribution can make a difference:
Fire Restoration Service (Hacking and Disposing): $2,300
This crucial service involves clearing out debris and hazardous materials left behind by the fire, ensuring Mr Ramesh can begin rebuilding his home without obstacles.
Movers for the salvaged items: $350
Assisting with the relocation of salvaged belongings is crucial for Mr Ramesh to preserve what remains of his possessions.
* This campaign will be updated after the fire restoration service has been completed when contractors can quote Mr Ramesh for the renovations needed to restore the apartment to a habitable condition.
New Year, New Beginnings for Mr Ramesh
On New Year’s Eve, tragedy struck. An electrical fire erupted in Mr Ramesh’s Marsiling 4-room HDB flat, quickly engulfing his home and turning his life upside down within minutes. Despite the swift response of firefighters, the damage to Mr Ramesh’s home was severe. Walls and ceilings bore the scars of ash, floor tiles were cracked, and most of his belongings were in ruins. From the ruins, Mr Ramesh managed to salvage only his identification items and a treasured portrait of his late parents, a poignant reminder of all that was lost in the fire.
“After the fire, all the physical items I had to remember my parents by were burnt into flames. All there is now are just memories,” Mr Ramesh lamented.
Mr Ramesh’s situation is compounded by the fact that he is an only child. In the absence of familial support, Mr Ramesh’s journey towards recovery becomes even more difficult as he endeavours to rebuild his life amidst the wreckage of his home and the challenges.
Despite Mr Ramesh’s employment as a private hire driver since 2018, his monthly nett earnings of $1,900 are insufficient to cover the extensive costs of restoring and renovating his fire-damaged home. On average, Mr Ramesh puts in long hours daily, making about 20 trips to support the renovation costs. With a substantial portion of his income absorbed by his car rental expenses, the remaining funds available to Mr Ramesh for daily living expenses and savings leaves little room for financial flexibility. The sudden and unforeseen nature of the incident has created unexpected financial strain, exacerbated by the added burden of medical expenses incurred due to his injuries.
Mr Ramesh urgently needs your assistance raising funds to kickstart renovation efforts. Your generosity will play a pivotal role in helping him rebuild his life and reclaim a sense of stability amidst the devastation brought by the fire.
