Ray of Hope would like to raise $1200 ($300 x 4 months) to help Ranajit with his living expenses while he waits for MOM’s investigation to conclude.
Ranajit, 48, is a Bangladeshi Migrant worker. As a General Construction Worker, he earns around $520 which is his basic pay without overtime. To earn an extra income, he works overtime and earns on average $700-$900. Every month he remits a bulk of his salary back to his family in Bangladesh which includes his wife, mother and his daughter.
On the 21st of May 2022, Ranajit met with a workplace accident while carrying a heavy gasoline tank. The accident caused him to injure his right leg and strained his back, causing him to feel lower back pain. Ranajit was admitted to hospital and his hospital fees were covered by his employers.
Ranajit was given 8 months of MC and had to attend physiotherapy regularly. However, he could not continue his sessions as his condition worsened and his doctor recommended that he go for an operation to replace a part of his spine with metal plates. Ranajit was unwilling to do the surgery as the recovery period is 6 months and no one is able to care for him in Singapore. Therefore, he hopes to travel to India with his family to undergo surgery.
Ranajit shared with our case workers that he wants to go back as soon as possible to visit his family. However, this is not possible as he is currently waiting for his compensation which is currently being assessed by MOM and the insurance company. Without any income, he constantly borrows money from his friends to support his daily expenses.
