Six Months of Groceries for Rozanah and Aqmal
A Mother and Her Growing Boy
Since her divorce, Mdm Rozanah has been raising her son, Aqmal, on her own, without any financial support from her ex-husband. The two of them share a 1-room rental flat, where she takes on both caregiving and providing for the household.
Aqmal is old enough now to sense when things are tight. During our interview, while Mdm Rozanah was explaining their finances, he quietly wrapped his arms around her and stayed there.
Despite their financial challenges, they find joy in life’s simple pleasures. During their free time, they enjoy watching movies together and browsing the shops, valuing the opportunity to spend quality time as a family.
Most days, it is just the two of them.
Returning to Work After Years Away
For many years, Mdm Rozanah remained at home to care for her family and manage the household. Being away from work for so long has made stepping back into employment feel uncertain.
“I feel nervous,” she shared. “But I must try.”
Mdm Rozanah is currently undergoing training for a part-time role at a nearby school and is expected to commence work in July, earning $7 per hour. However, the role is only available during the school term. During school holidays, there are no shifts available, resulting in periods without income from employment.
It is a start, but it is not enough to run a household of two.
They budget carefully and keep groceries simple, but expenses still add up. Recently, an unexpected visit to A&E for Aqmal created additional medical costs that set them back further.
Building Stability, Step by Step
Mdm Rozanah speaks about the future simply. She is not asking for comfort, only stability.
Although her income changes during school holidays, she remains grateful for the opportunity to work. The job gives her routine and helps her regain confidence after years away from employment.
She hopes that by working steadily and saving what she can, she will slowly move toward greater independence. For now, she continues to focus on Aqmal’s needs while adjusting to employment and managing the household on her own.
Returning to work while managing everything at home is not easy. Still, she continues because she wants Aqmal to feel more secure as he grows up.
How Your Support Will Help
We are raising $3,664.80 to help cover groceries and daily household expenses for the next six months.
This temporary support will help them manage their basic needs while she adjusts to part-time work and builds greater financial stability. It will ensure that food and household necessities are covered each month, ease the strain on her limited income, and give the family a chance to set aside small savings over time. It will also provide a buffer for unexpected expenses.
Six months of consistent support would give her time to settle into her job and plan ahead more confidently. Aqmal can focus on school, and Mdm Rozanah can concentrate on building a steadier routine at work.
Your support will help her work toward that stability while ensuring their daily needs are met.
