Ray of Hope is raising $3,624 ($604 x 6 months) to help Thomas and Victoria with their meals, milk and diapers expenses while they renew their SSO assistance. Having some savings will also allow Victoria’s two children (currently in foster care) to be reintegrated into the family.

33 year-old Thomas and his partner, Victoria, are working towards owning their own home. With little to no support from their extended family, the couple only has themselves to rely on. They live in a one-room rental flat with their 15 month-old daughter. Victoria’s two children from her first marriage, aged 7 and 5, are currently in foster care.

Thomas was diagnosed with Backers Muscular Dystrophy when he was 9 years old. Over the years, the muscles on his legs and pelvis have weakened. Now, Thomas is mostly wheelchair-bound and attends weekly physiotherapy sessions, hoping to get better so that he can work longer hours to provide for the family.

Despite his mobility issues, Thomas started working part-time as a recruitment officer, earning about $500 per month. Unfortunately, he did not pass his probation and was asked to resign after he fell sick and was on 3 days of medical leave. He is now seeking new employment, while their SSO assistance is being renewed.

Victoria is pregnant and is due to deliver in mid-October 2022. She suffers from Major Depressive Disorder and borderline personality disorder with acute stress.

The couple worries about not having an income, especially when the assistance they receive cannot cover their daily expenses. In addition, the couple is appealing for a bigger flat to provide their children with a conducive living environment.
