Ray of Hope has previously assisted Mr Soh and Madam Hou by raising S$1,530 for them. Unfortunately, barely three months after moving into a home to call their own, the couple met with an accident when an SBS Transit bus hit the bicycle that they were riding on from behind. Mr Soh was thrown onto the grass verge while Madam Hou landed on the concrete pavement. The sides of Madam Soh’s skull were crushed in the accident and had to be reshaped with plaster. Since the accident, Madam Hou was permanently disabled, with her staring into space most of the time, unaware of what is going on around her.
The physical and emotional task of care can be burdensome with no end in sight.
Since Mdm Hou was admitted into the nursing home more than 2 years ago, Mr Soh had been travelling to and fro each day to visit and care for her without fail.
Mdm Hou has recently been brought home to stay for good by Mr Soh, but he remains dedicated in caring for her despite himself suffering from significant cognitive impairment affecting his memory and brain after the accident. The couple has also since sold their 4-room which they had bought less than two months before their accident, and is currently staying in their downgraded 2-room rental flat.
Even with a caregiving journey fraught with challenges, both emotionally and financially, Mr Soh devotes all his time caring for Madam Hou and attending to her needs.
Financial Breakdown
While Mr Soh is awaiting updates on his compensation matters, Ray of Hope would like to raise $3,840 ($320 x 12 months) for the couple’s living expenses. that alleviating outstanding financial burdens will bring some respite for Mr Soh, and encourage the couple to persevere in this journey.
