Hi, my name is Cindy. I am blissfully married to Asher Ling and we currently worship at Aldersgate Methodist Church.
After graduating with a degree in Business Studies from NTU, I began my career in sales and marketing, honing my skills in hunting for deals and educating clients to make informed choices for their needs. Several years in, the Lord called me into MOE teaching where I focussed on teaching Normal Technical students in Business Skills for the last decade. The journey of teaching softened my heart towards youth and in particular youth-at-risk and neglected youth. My empathy and love for them grew. As they shared their challenging home circumstances with me, I wonder if I might have coped worse had I been in their shoes. I strongly believe if they have someone to guide them in their thought process, perspective-taking and emotional chaos, they could soar and fulfil their God-created purpose; I wished I could dedicate more time into providing this guidance.
The door to Youth Guidance (YG) in Singapore Youth for Christ (SYFC) opened in February 2019. After prayerful consideration, I joined as an intern and in August, converted to staff. YG is a ministry which reaches out to troubled youth – delinquent or in need due to complex family situations. Through regular visitations to institutional homes, neighbourhood areas, referrals and student centres, we befriend, informally counsel, share the gospel, teach the Word and life coach youth towards holistic living. It has been an exciting 10 months in the ministry “hunting” souls and educating youth to make informed choices for life’s deepest needs.
Ministry with youth-at-risk can often be 1 step forward and a few steps backwards. However, even with hindsight of seeming failures, I would pour my all in a heartbeat. I want to be a part of the forward steps, even if they seem futile now. I want to trust that every little forward step is a seed sown and God will cause growth in good timing.
I cling to the promise that God inaugurated me into ministry – “I will give rain to the seed with which you sow the ground, and the produce will be plenteous.” (Isaiah 30:23). May I invite you to join me in this kingdom work of little forward steps? Every staff of SYFC is expected to participate in the Personal Support Scheme (PSS) as SYFC is a non-profit organization. This scheme encourages every staff to raise their monthly salary and employer CPF contribution. Hence, I hope you will prayerfully consider supporting me financially, on a monthly basis or a one-time gift, and/or volunteer with us in this journey of sowing seeds among an often neglected strata of youth.
