Belayet’s Cancer Journey:
Belayet’s journey with this devastating illness began in June 2023 when he was suddenly struck by excruciating headaches. Following thorough medical examinations at the hospital, a tumour of 6cm in diameter was discovered, nestled near his forehead and nose. Since then, he has undergone rigorous treatments, including 5 cycles of chemotherapy, in preparation for surgery.Â
The medical team had initially planned extensive surgery at the base of his skull and additional adjuvant treatment. However, in a miraculous turn of events, after the final chemotherapy session, the tumour was found to have shrunk from 6cm to 3cm in diameter. Consequently, doctors advised continuing with a few more rounds of chemotherapy and 30 sessions of radiotherapy to eliminate the cancer cells, resulting in the postponement of the planned surgery.
The chemotherapy regimen proved effective for Belayet, with the tumor further reducing to 2.17cm in diameter by December 2023. In January 2024, Belayet started on his radiotherapy sessions which are scheduled to end in April 2024. His condition has greatly improved and he is now recuperating during his recovery phase.
While this is good news for the recovering Belayet, a heavy burden continues to weigh on him. As the sole breadwinner for his wife and two sons living in Bangladesh, Belayet’s battle against cancer has not only taken a toll on his health but also robbed him of his ability to shoulder these financial responsibilities.
How can you help?
Ray of Hope caseworkers were informed by Belayet’s medical social worker that Hospital funding has been approved for expenses incurred between 15 November 2023 to 31 May 2024. However, this does not cover outstanding bills from previous treatments amounting to $7,024.50. We would like to raise this amount on Belayet’s behalf.
Payment will be made to the hospital directly.
Appeal from Belayet’s employer:
We are writing to you with a heavy heart and a plea for urgent assistance. Our dedicated employee, Mr. Hossain Belayet, who has been an integral part of our small SME family for the past two decades, has been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer.Â
Belayet has been an incredibly dedicated and responsible worker in Singapore for the past 20 years. He is the sole breadwinner for his family, with his wife being a housewife and two sons, 17 and 9 years old living in Bangladesh.
As Belayet courageously battles cancer, we need your support to help him through this challenging journey. Despite his unwavering dedication to his work and family, he now faces an uphill battle against this devastating illness.Â
Since Belayet’s diagnosis, we have paid more than SGD 37,000 for his previous treatment bills while supporting two other migrant workers in the company for their surgery fees.
Despite our best efforts, we find ourselves unable to shoulder this financial burden alone. Hence, we humbly turn to your compassionate hearts for assistance. Your generous contributions will not only provide Belayet with a fighting chance against this life-threatening illness but will also offer hope and relief to his distraught family.
Every dollar counts and brings us one step closer to our goal of providing him with the support he needs. Together, through our collective efforts, we can help his family find hope during these dark times.
Yours truly, Janice (Former employer of Belayet)
