Our fundraising efforts are saving lives

Project Virya management, through SLBA Secretary brought to our notice the critical situation at Karapitiya teaching hospital in Gall without essential medical supplies required to operate Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) machine. Project Virya is a project running in aid of Galle Extracorporeal Life Support Association (GELSA) of  Sri Lanka.

Due to these shortcomings, ECMO machine (there are only two such machines in Sri Lanka) has not been in operation for some time and many Covid infected patients have lost their lives as a result. We managed to source cannulaes required to make ECMO machine usable in Singapore with the funds raised was used to procure the essential medical supplies. The total cost of the four cannulaes was SGD 2,720/= along with a  shipping cost of SGD 888.10.

Attached below is a letter and the photo received from Dr. Tolusha Harischandra, Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon of Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Sri Lanka after using the cannulas that were sent thanks to the recent donations raised. She also shared a photograph at the point they used it as all these small efforts are savings lives.
