(Update) As of 31st Jan 2024 – there is $210 left in the fund. Since the start of the fund in March 2023, Ray of Hope has given $15,600 directly to 55 families with school going children for their educational needs. 

Original Campaign Story

This giving circle was set up in 2023 in loving memory of Janet Ng Lin Seong (1944-2023), to carry on her life’s mission of supporting children and youth in their educational journeys.

A message from Janet’s children:

As the eldest of six siblings, our mother tragically lost her parents at a young age and took on caring for her siblings. She selflessly devoted her life to education, working as a teacher in Singapore and later helping to set up and run a school (Permai Plus) in Indonesia after retirement.

Mom was passionate about education and youth, and her values of humility, kindness, and generosity shone through. She was a motherly figure to many and inspired countless students, colleagues and friends with her dedication and unwavering commitment to helping others in need.

With this fund, we aim to continue her spirit of giving back to the community and supporting education and youth initiatives that align with her values.

We invite you to join us in honouring our mother’s life and positively impacting the world she cared so deeply for. Together, we can carry on her legacy of kindness, generosity, and commitment to education and youth and make a difference in the lives of those in need.

How will the funds help?

The fund will provide additional resources to students residing in Singapore from disadvantaged backgrounds. This ensures equal access to education and the opportunity to succeed by circumventing some of the financial burdens low-income students face via: 

1. 1. Financial Support: Reducing the financial burden on caregivers by providing funds to students to cover the cost of education-related expenses.
   2. Early Intervention support: Early intervention programs aimed at identifying and addressing learning difficulties can help prevent students from falling behind and provide them with the support they need.

By providing support to these students, we can help ensure that they have the resources they need to pursue their educational goals and build a brighter future for themselves and their families.

What is a Giving Circle: 

A Giving Circle (GC) is a pooled fund created to meet the needs of a specific group of people or for a specific need. When an individual campaign falls short of its crowdfunding goal, funds from the relevant Giving Circle are used to support the campaign. To ensure fairness, the specific amount is determined by Ray of Hope’s internal guidelines for each Giving Circle.

The GC is your opportunity to be part of a cause you deeply care for. By donating any amount, you are part of an exceptional group of donors who have come together to fulfil a need of a particular community. As a donor, you will also get updates on how Ray of Hope utilised the funds and how your contributions have helped. You may also receive an invite to special events with the possibility of meeting some of the clients you have supported.
