Hari Raya is a celebration where families gather to mark the end of Ramadan, a time where Muslims worldwide abstain from food from dawn to sunset. One of the main objectives of fasting is to help better empathize with the less fortunate. While many families have the privilege to celebrate Hari Raya, many of our beneficiaries do not have the luxury to do so.
23-year-old Irhwan, who is featured in our Raya for Hope video, is the sole breadwinner of his family. His father walked out on the family on December 2018, shortly after Irhwan completed his National Service. He had to look after his mother who suffered from depression and his 12-year-old sister who had adjustment disorder .
This Hari Raya, Irhwan hopes that his family will be able to enjoy the festivities. All he asks for this year is to be able to buy new sets of Raya clothes, shoes and cookies for his family.
