Eric, 39, started working as a delivery driver in 2020. Unfortunately, he lost his job in May 2021 and only returned to work in September 2021. Unfortunately, he met with an accident that left him with acute back pain.
On 14th November 2021, a vehicle collided with Eric’s motorbike while he was making a delivery. The accident left him with a painful shoulder and back, and he sought treatment at a clinic. Eric was issued 3 days of medical leave and 14 days of light duty. The X Ray of his lumbar spine did not show any acute pathology, but Eric felt pain in his lower back that radiated down to his right leg. He also had insomnia and kept having worrying thoughts about the traffic accident, his injuries, his job safety and financial concerns. His current MC ends on 7th August 2022.
With his previous income of $2,500, Eric was able to support himself and did not have to worry about his meals. Now he has at least 6 appointments at the hospital every month to treat the persistent pain in his shoulder and back. Each visit costs between $50 to $80. Although medical expenses are covered by assistance from the Social Service Office (SSO), Eric incurs about $200 each month for transport.
*Eric is receiving social assistance, which will end in July 2022.
