A rainy day in May had turned out to be an unexpectedly unlucky day for Shereen, when she slipped and fell while she was with her friends. The 26-year-old struggled with the pain from her fall and was hospitalized from 10-26 May. She was subsequently transferred to a community hospital before being discharged to home. Since her fall, the single mum was unable to work due to her temporary immobility.
Help Needed – Give Hope
Shereen was recently divorced from her ex-husband and is taking care of their two children, 4 and 2 years old. She was working as a brand ambassador prior to her fall, bringing home slightly more than $1,000 each month. Since her fall, Shereen has been struggling with moving around even when she is at home. She is currently undergoing weekly physiotherapy sessions at home.
Shereen’s mum, 65 years old, was working as a cleaner and was able to help support the family before Shereen was injured and could not continue working while she recuperates. Since then, Shereen’s mum, who has been divorced some years back, has been shouldering the caregiving duties of her mum (97 years old) and Shereen’s kids.
With the both of them being unable to work before Shereen fully recovers, the family is surviving only with the help of friends and neighbours while awaiting the renewal of their SSO assistance. The family is also in need of a new washing machine as their old machine which has served them for more than 10 years have now broken down.
Ray of Hope would like to raise $2,030 for the family while Shereen focuses on getting well:
- Washing machine (one-time): $280
- Food & sundry (monthly): $350 x 5 months
*Shereen is currently not receiving any assistance from SSO as it has ended in May 2019, and is currently being renewed.
